    Universities are becoming extremely active in encouraging community at their university and persuading students to be part of the whole in order to get the most out of their university experience. This manifests itself through encouragement to get involved in numerous groups, dorm bonding activities, Greek life, and many other organizations offered at all universities. According to Katherine J, building a community during your first year of college is considered and essential for both the students and the university. .Nevins, Ph.D. “Belonging is both being part of a whole and having shared ownership of this whole” (Nevins). She explains that once students develop a sense of belonging to the university or even just an organization, they feel ownership over their new identity and friendships, which makes the community as a whole stronger with each new student. “Community building owes its allegiance to such well-researched pedagogical approaches as collaborative learning, cooperative learning, and structured learning communities” (Nevins). She explains that community is as much an activity as it is a science. Extensive research developed the system we know today primarily as common community building strategies prevalent in universities around the world. One of the popular community goals in college is to join sororities and fraternities or better known as Greek life. “I think it creates friendships and connections that can go beyond university life” (Estrella).
