    Every day in the United States, more than three children die as a result of child abuse (Giardino, 2010). This statistic is too high and changes need to be made to overcome this problem. As a parent, you are supposed to take care of your children and treat them in the right way. This is not always the case and children end up being abused at home, when they are supposed to feel safe. Changes need to be made to medical awareness to keep children safe. Imagine being a child who is constantly abused by an adult who should be taking care of him. Instead, you are neglected, beaten, slapped, burned or even assaulted. Since advocates are primarily responsible for poor service, someone else needs to step up, speak for them. This is where healthcare providers come in. These same children are taken to the doctor for various illnesses and examinations. Since people working in the medical field are trained to recognize potential signs and symptoms of abuse, this could be the only chance for rescue for these children. There are several types of abuse listed: neglect, emotional abuse, parental substance abuse, abandonment and exceptions. Child abuse or neglect means the physical injury or neglect, mental injury, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation or mistreatment of a child under 18 years of age by a person under circumstances that indicate that the health or well-being of the child is harmed or threatened.
