Subsequent events such as the Sugar Act, the Quartering Act, the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts, the Tea Acts, including the Boston Massacre, were some of the reasons why the colonies rebelled against Great Britain . The Boston Tea Party was another event that would forever change American history and push toward a revolution that united the colonists more than ever before. Colonists were granted fewer rights than British citizens and had no representation in Parliament. Without fair representation, the settlers owe absolutely nothing to the Crown. Therefore, the Crown's attempt to tax tea spurred action and laid the foundation for the Boston Tea Party. Before looking in more detail at what led the Boston Tea Party to take place, it is important to examine what it was about and how such tensions between the American colonists and the British government developed. People who lived in the thirteen colonies did not have direct representation in the British Parliament. Without this representation, the government was free to tax the settlers in any way and amount. Many settlers lived in fear that their property rights and freedom would be taken away. The protests only led to more laws being changed or repealed and increasing tensions throughout the colonies, particularly in Boston. With tea being a staple of colonial life, taxes led to the smuggling of cheaper non-British tea and the boycott of British tea.
