Essay / Monitoring of Public Speaking in Pakistani School System a strong character. Communication skills are one of the most important skills in today's life and we can learn it through public speaking. This article highlights the role of public speaking in the Pakistani education system. Although it is a very useful resource in life, it is still neglected in Pakistan. Who is responsible for this, whether the education system or the students themselves? This article examines the international perspective of this capability. Why has it failed to achieve good results in Pakistan and why are students and educational institutions still ignoring it? It narrates the different methods and techniques chosen by international schools of thought and how they have helped them shape a better future. It details different books and experiences set by one of the most influential people in the world. It also states that most successful people consider public speaking and strong character their primary and most powerful virtue. It takes a closer look at children's grooming years and why education is based solely on exams rather than strong character. Public speaking can be a very useful resource and can also be chosen as a profession. This tells us how many opportunities are accessible simply by paying attention to this specific skill. The importance of this topic lies in the role it plays in our lives. And because of our exceptional character, we can influence people in our social life as well as in our professional life. Public speaking or communication skills can provide us with many opportunities that we would otherwise miss. The reason why I thought this topic “Control of Public Speaking in Pakistani School System” needed more attention is because a lot of research has been done by foreigners. But Pakistani researchers have failed to understand its importance. One of the articles did not address public speaking outside of the classroom, the other article only focused on military training at specific schools. However, my study focuses only on public schools. Another only talked about debate preparation, but provided no actual experience or practice. A different study was done on middle-aged people, while I only focus on college-going students. The last researcher only talked about public speaking in class, even though it is a skill that can help you throughout your life. The research methodology I chose for this article is mixed methods research. I conducted my primary research by interviewing male students in primary and secondary classes. Study in different schools of elite, public and government status. While my research does not include female students in schools. However, reading different articles from the worldwhole, I did my secondary research. The main research question is whether or not people know the importance of public speaking in school preparation. To tell them how strong character plays an important role in your practical life. Literature Review Patricia H. Phelps (1993) in her article “The Challenge of Character Building” shared her story of teaching Latin in a public secondary school. Her primary research helped her determine two major aspects, namely the physical and the psychological. Through her article, she highlights the teaching lives of teachers and their interactions with students. I found this article really helpful because it tells us about the narrator's own struggles with teaching character and the importance of public speaking and how she tries to resolve them. This seems like a realistic approach when it comes to building a strong character. However, the only downside I felt is that it fails to address building character outside of the classroom through public speaking and how it can help students in full growth to achieve more in their practical life. Price (1996), in his article “Some Aspects of Character Building,” discussed the Boy Scout movement, the British School Exploring Society, and the Moray Badge schools of Britain. His primary research helps him determine two major aspects of character building, namely the physical and the psychological. The article is useful because it tells us the origin of character building and why it was taught to students from a young age in military specific schools. It was believed that strong character could help cadets win wars and accept defeat with pride. However, this article focuses only on schools specific to military training and does not apply to public schools. Because public schools only see education as a way to pass exams rather than a way to succeed in life. Stephen J. Zippo (1991) in his article “The Pros and Cons of Environmental Debates” addressed two major points in delivering a good speech: attention and conciseness. . The article is useful in the sense that it explains the basic element of public speaking, which is preparation, and we should put maximum effort into the pre-production of the speech. This tells us that the public's attention span is very short and that we should work on our starting point as much as possible. We should attract attention as soon as possible. But the downside of this article is that there are no real examples of great speeches. As we all know in life, practice is what makes you perfect. Dale Carnegie (1990), in his book How to Build Self-Confidence and Influence People through Public Speaking, talked about his own history of teaching different people of different ages and professions to gain self-esteem. confidence to speak in public in different parts of the world. He discussed the most important aspect of public speaking, which is stage fear. He states that people being very powerful in their economic situation fail to reach out to even a small number of people. This article is very useful because it teaches us that it is never too late to learn and that there is nothing to feel bad about when facing failure. However, this study only focuses on middle-aged people and does not focus on school-going children who are in their preparation period of their lives. Steven Grabaugh (1990)in his article “Public Speaking Reducing Student Apprehension and Improving Oral Skills” discusses the importance of teaching public speaking to students from a young age. He says the classroom is the best place to start with this skill because students want to learn well and quickly, which will help them later in their academic life. It focuses on the most important problem that students face when speaking in public, which is anxiety and depression. It also tells us about the role the audience plays in good public speaking. But this article lacks implementation of these skills. He pays more attention to learning public speaking in academic institutes than in life. DiscussionIn this modern life, everyone aspires to be the most successful person in the world. The definition of success can vary from person to person, some believe that money is everything, others debate that happiness is the ultimate goal and the list goes on. To succeed, you have to make sure you have the best roots. This is what public speaking at a young age does to students. This is a very valuable resource and most of the time neglected by the higher commission of the education system. Pakistan's education system overemphasizes that students should only prepare for their exams and not build their character. Through my primary research, which was conducted by interviewing male students from elite, government and public schools. I learned that a debate competition is only held twice a year, simply to meet the composition requirements of the school system. There is no prior training for the competition. Moreover, the winners do not receive any kind of valuable recognition which kills their motivation for further competitions. On the other hand, exams take place four times a year and different quizzes are organized throughout the year. Communication is the backbone of any society. It helps us make connections that will help us later in life. It gives us the confidence to talk about what matters. Public speaking also opens doors to new opportunities by increasing our self-esteem. By speaking in public, we can give ourselves strong character. This allows us to influence the decisions of others and gives us the power of persuasion. Strong character is defined as one of the most important aspects of living a successful life. Whether it's coping with pain or motivating people in their daily lives. A strong character always plays an important role. Patricia (1993) explains in her article “The Challenge of Character Building” how she teaches eight of the basic principles to the learners in her class. It highlights the fact that at the beginning of fall, all students should be friendly with each other. This boosts their morale and gives them more confidence in what they do. She has written a well-written research paper, but struggles to defend the idea that public speaking is a skill that is learned in life rather than in a classroom. It only focuses on the basic points that can be done only in class. For example, she says that students receive written grades for their appreciation or that teachers should have lower expectations of their students. Whereas in real life, you don't make people appreciate your work by giving them letters. Most of the time, people don't even understand your arguments or criticize your speech. You have to be able to bear the consequences. This is a practice that is not practiced most of the timetime not applicable in class. In this way, you may not be able to meet people's expectations of you. The best of the best also make mistakes, as Dale Carnegie (1990) reports: "Many speakers in England performed poorly at first, demonstrating that there is now a feeling in Parliament that it is more It’s a bad omen that a young man’s initial task is to be elected.” a decisive success. This further explains my research point that what is taught in a classroom is very different from what is useful in life. Now this shows that Patricia H Phelps had some problems in her article which she wrote in accordance with public speaking. Character building has been around in schools since World War II. It was taught in specific military training schools so that soldiers could accept their defeat, endure the torture of the enemy and not suffer psychological disorders due to the murders committed during the war. Price (1996) states in his article “Some Aspects of Character Building” that different techniques were taught to the country's training cadets. She says that fighting for one's country is the greatest responsibility of every citizen. The Second World War was a very dark time for the United Kingdom. So they had to create concentration camps to build a strong character in life. He wrote a well-organized research paper in favor of strong character. But it fails to shed light on this issue in public schools. As the number of public schools now exceeds that of military schools, he could have shed light on this factor as well. Years have passed since World War II, but Pakistan's education system has not taken into account this valuable resource which is simply wasted. Dixon (1918) states: “But of what use is knowledge of one or all subjects if he is incapable of finally expressing himself in such a way that others can understand him or behave before others? with ease or impressively? ". This helps explain my view that education is no good if you are incapable of passing it on to others. It becomes a very serious problem and people are unable to attract public attention. Stephen (1991) in his article “The Advantages and Disadvantages of Environmental Debates” “states different practice techniques for good debate. It informs the reader about the most important thing that grabs the audience's attention. A debate should have a promising beginning and a crushing ending, because those two things are what everyone remembers. He says that one should always devote most of one's efforts to the preparation phase to get the best result from one's debate. All these good speeches on the theoretical aspect of the debate are very well written but fail to put the reality into practice. You have to be careful not to spend too much time preparing rather than implementing all your ideas. This is also where Pakistan’s education system falls short. Throughout the year, students are guaranteed to learn everything present in the book, but fail to apply the knowledge. As they say, there is no right time, no right time to do something, no late courage to start something new. The same goes for public speaking and developing strong character. Dale Carnegie (1990) in his book How to Build Self-Confidence and Influence People by Public Speaking talks about the main problem people face when speaking publicly, which is fear. Stage fear is something everyone faces at some point.: 19/02/2019
