Essay / I Am Legend - 1177
From time to time, everyone has thought about what it would be like to be the last man or woman on Earth. Having the world and everything in it to yourself, with no one to bother you, while enjoying the luxuries you've never had. What people don't realize is the loneliness, despair and darkness of the so-called utopia they imagine. Richard Matheson, the author of I Am Legend, brings this dark idea to life by writing a story about Robert Neville's life as the last human on earth. I Am Legend is often linked to actor Will Smith and his incredible portrayal of Robert Neville, the novel's protagonist. However, most people do not give Richard Matheson enough credit for creating the screenplay and being the author of the original novel. The post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by Richard Matheson and the post-apocalyptic science fiction film by Francis Lawrence both have many similarities and differences. Once again, the film, like many others, falls short of the novel, mainly due to too many character changes and a story that leaves readers disappointed. In the film adaptation, Robert Neville is a scientist who can't stop a man. made virus incurable. He is the last human alive in a world filled with infected mutant victims known as Darkseekers. However, in the novel, he is the last human to survive an epidemic that destroyed humanity, turning them into vampires. Everyone he came in contact with was either turned or killed by a vampire. These differences in plot in turn affect the portrayal of Robert Neville's character. In the film, Robert gets along well, hunts for food, trains, eats meals regularly, and is generally healthy. In the middle of a sheet of paper, he leaned against the wall as he swallowed the pills. It's come full circle, he thought as the final lethargy crept into his limbs. Full circle. A new terror born of death, a new superstition penetrating the unassailable fortress of eternity. I am a legend. ( ). It's like the saying goes, he really lived long enough to see himself become a villain. The film adaptation is not very similar to the novel at all. The concept is presented as another apocalyptic film, although it features excellent cinematic effects accompanied by the formidable acting skills of Will Smith as Robert Neville. The film lacks key plot elements and components that make up the world and characters that Richard Matheson had in mind when writing the original book. Although the film is excellent in the sense of entertainment, nothing resembles the novel in the end..
