  • Essay / Rhetorical Analysis Paper: Elizabeth Cady Stanton

It was not until 1919 that women were given the right to vote. Without the hard work, determination, and perseverance of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, women today may still not have had the privilege of voting. Thanks to Elizabeth Cady Stanton and her hard work, women are now treated as equals in our society today. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born into a family of eleven on November 12, 1815, in Johnstown, New York. Elizabeth was passionate about gender equality from a young age. One of the main reasons Elizabeth became so passionate about women's rights was meeting her father. Ever since Elizabeth was little, she was aware that there were issues with gender equality in society. Elizabeth's brother had died and one night Elizabeth was sitting on her father's lap and her father told her that he wished she was a boy. Hearing this statement made Elizabeth furious and she wanted to do everything she could to prove to her father that she could do all the same things her brother was capable of doing. She began taking higher-level math and language classes and was winning competitions even though she was the only girl participating. It was very rare for women to be educated in those days, but Stanton was considered lucky because she received a good education. Elizabeth married Henry B. Stanton. They had seven children together. Her passion for women's equality was rekindled at the age of thirty-three. Elizabeth Stanton and her husband attended an anti-slavery convention in London. During this convention, the British excluded women delegates, which infuriated Stanton and she knew she had to act immediately. She decided, with the help of other women, to organize a meeting for women's rights. Lucretia Mott and...... middle of paper ......ple like her, our country would not be in the state it is in today. If Stanton and his hard-working friends hadn't stood up for women's rights, I wonder if women would have the right to vote today. Elizabeth Cady Stanton is a great example of someone who worked hard to get what she wanted. She is a role model not only for girls but for everyone. This shows that if you are unhappy with something and you want there to be a change in the world, you can be the change in the world. Thanks to Stanton, women today are treated equally with men. Women can do the same jobs as men. They are not victims of discrimination. I believe that women are fully capable of doing anything that men can do. Elizabeth died in 1902 and unfortunately she didn't get to see her hard work as she was active as women were not allowed to vote until about twenty years later..
