Essay / Images and their representations on social networks - 751
An image has the capacity to convey philosophies that the text perhaps cannot; therefore, people tend to use images to express their emotions rather than texts. The images may appear simple; however, they are in fact complex and hold various meanings. Most social networks allow you to upload images to show off your distinctive personality in any way that suits you. In other words, the images displayed on social networks do not necessarily show our whole personality, but only the aspects that we would like to be seen. However, most of the time we use images without realizing their meaning. Chad is a 30-year-old English teacher whose Facebook page displays two images that express his personality and interests. Chad seems to have some adventurous and exciting hobbies, as the photos he posts suggest. While his cover photo shows a long-distance photo of a storm that mixes clear and cloudy skies, expressing the grandeur of the storm, his profile photo shows him with a black and white bear. The cover photo in Chad's profile is a long distance photo. of a supercell storm. Since it is a Facebook cover photo, it is displayed as a banner in the profile, which will have a huge impact on the first impression of the profile, thus reflecting on the profile owner; therefore, a photo of a thunderstorm in the distance gives the profile a great impression. Additionally, the angle from which the photo is taken is meant to show the immensity of the storm. Additionally, the photo was taken from an angle in which the sun is positioned behind the rain, making it appear foggy and dark; thus demonstrating the storm's dominance over the sun, making it the center of attention. Additionally, the colors appear natural; however, the contrast...... middle of paper ......y the storm on the cover photo and the bear strangling it in the profile photo as if they were on the edge of the road. Since Chad is 30 years old, he may be going through an adult development called the age 30 transition ("Age Transition." xx), in which a person has acquired experience in their twenties and moves on to, for example: establishing the career they always wanted. On the Internet, we have the ability to present ourselves however we want, as Chad's Facebook profile shows. He showed the adventurous side of his personality on his Facebook profile and neglected his professional side as an English teacher interested in literature. Chad may not have noticed what people are seeing in his profile; however, the subconscious mind works in its own efforts. Works Cited “Transition at 30”. Robin Abrahams. Np, January 27, 2010. Web.
