The Glorious RevolutionSome say that the Glorious Revolution was one of the greatest milestones in English history. The Glorious Revolution is a very important event in history for many reasons. It wasn't exactly a peaceful time, but it was a time in which no combat warfare took place. This was a pleasant change for England at the time as it had experienced many struggles for the throne and for once the transaction was relatively smooth. After the death of his brother Charles II, James II came to the throne in 1685. The aim was to re-establish the Roman Catholic religion in England. The English were predominantly Protestant and did not want to change their habits. Interestingly, his wife and two daughters, Mary and Anne, were Protestant. There were rules that prohibited Catholics from becoming officers in the navy or army, but this did not stop James II. He appointed many Catholics to high positions in the army and navy.
