Essay / China's economic rise - 1059
China's economic rise in recent years has had the greatest influence on my thinking, especially regarding economics, finance, my values personal and my social responsibility. I was born in Shanghai in the early 1980s, when China's economic reform had just begun and the nation was opening its doors to the outside world. I still remember the relatively low standard of living of my childhood: televisions and vehicles were rare; people rarely dined at restaurants; the majority of commuters traveled by bicycle – there were no subways or highways, even in China's largest city. However, since then, the national economy has begun to prosper, along with the modernization of agriculture, industry, science and technology. From the first underground subway line to the first stock listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, I witnessed enormous economic progress while living in Shanghai. Meanwhile, people seemed increasingly enthusiastic about making more money, whether it was starting a business or trading stocks. At the time, I believed that economic growth only meant a more comfortable life and a more developed society. In high school, I began to look at certain economic indicators, such as GDP, as well as the stock market in order to keep up to date with the evolution of people's standard of living nationally as well as the growth of our wealth. I moved to the United States after college and closely followed developments in my country through Chinese and Western media, such as Xinhua News and Bloomberg. Growth appears to be even faster, with GDP growth approaching double digits in recent years. However, as many people became richer and encountered more and more social problems, such as environmental pollution...... middle of paper ...... end values, I became more dedicated to my community. As a tutor at TutorChatLive.org, a nonprofit educational organization, not only do I work one-on-one with students who need help in a variety of subjects, like math and economics, but I also collaborates with other online tutors to find solutions. questions from students. Additionally, I volunteered for Asbury at Drexel to help prepare meals for people who were homebound and living with life-threatening illnesses. I felt a deep sense of inner gratitude when I directly witnessed the positive impact my efforts had on others and my community. In the long term, I would like to integrate my thinking into my career and future plans to encourage greater social awareness and ethics. efforts in China. Through these efforts, I hope to live out my highest personal value by making a social impact.
