Essay / How did the religious beliefs of the Iroquois differ from...
The indigenous people of America are called Native Americans or often referred to as "Indians". They make up about 2% of the U.S. population, and some of them still live on reservations. They once lived freely in the wild, without any sort of influence or exposure from the Europeans who came later in 1492, and their culture is therefore very different from ours. In the following essay, we will discover some differences between religious beliefs. Native American Iroquois and Christianity to see if culture and lifestyles have an effect on the view of religion, but we will also experience some similarities between them. I'm going to focus on the Iroquois, who are the historically important and powerful Native Americans of the northeast. One of the first differences between Iroquois beliefs and Christianity is the theory of "the creation of life." The Iroquois believed in a creator God called "Hahgwehdiyu", who was the good spirit of the twin wind-breathing gods. He shaped the world with the palms of his hands and recycled the corpse of his deceased mother to create the sky, moon and sun. He planted a grain of corn there to give the world fertility. It is believed that when the Sky Woman, or mother, fell from the sky, she fertilized the earth so that her granddaughters could grow and harvest many things. They also believe in a present-day God called “the Great Spirit.” On the other hand, Christians believe a different story. The Holy Bible states that one God, simply called God, created the heavens, the earth, the light and the darkness. He later created the first humans, Adam and Eve. We can already see a difference, just by knowing...... middle of paper......and nature is the main source of guaranteed quality of life. Christians live in towns or villages where the environment makes it important to behave well and be courteous, because it is the most modern way of living, and therefore it makes more sense for them to believe in a more compatible system. to their way of life.
