Essay / The brutal truth: Marijuana should not be illegal
How many more times are you going to be lied to by the government? The government has made people believe that the marijuana plant is a drug that has no good use and is bad for the population. But that's not true. They keep it illegal for reasons that benefit them. Marijuana has many reasons why it should be legal. It should be legalized for 3 main reasons: it is safer than other substances than our legal substances, it could help treat a wide range of different medical conditions, and it could be very beneficial and help the economy and the industry. Cigarettes and AlcoholMarijuana is far safer than cigarettes and alcohol, both legal substances in the United States and around the world. Many people will say that marijuana is more harmful than both, but that is not the case. Cigarettes and alcohol are much more dangerous and addictive than marijuana. Cigarette smoking is also the leading cause of lung cancer, while compounds found in cannabis kill different types of cancer. Tobacco is responsible for approximately 443,000 deaths per year, while marijuana has yet to cause any. (American Cancer) Alcohol, unlike marijuana, contributes to aggressive behavior. “Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, found that 36% of hospitalized assaults and 21% of all injuries are attributable to the injured person's alcohol consumption. » (safer choice) There are 5,000,000 violent crimes per year due to alcohol.
