Essay / Comedy in "Pure Luck" - 961
A world without comedy would be like a butter knife, it's boring, unnecessary and serves no purpose. The world would be full of rude and obnoxious people. Comedy helps keep the world flowing. This allows people to laugh at each other while ignoring rude comments. It also creates a relaxed environment. Comedy is everywhere and it helps the world be a little less boring. Comedy can be found on television, on the internet, and in books, to name a few. Comedy creates the illusion that things will get better; however, the comedy gets better by making the situation worse. There are many types of comedy, including satire, farce, and one-liners. The definition of comedy is any story or event of a light and humorous nature that has a happy ending. One place where there was a recurring theme of comedy was in the film Pure Luck. Three characteristics of comedy found in the film were that standard logic and solutions do not always work in comedic plots, that comedy focuses on the irregularities of an otherwise ordered world, and that comedic characters consider the abnormal as completely normal. the movie is that logical and standard solutions don't always work in comedic plots. For example, Dr. Monosoff suggests bringing in an accountant, Eugene Proctor, to help them find Mr. Highsmith's daughter. The reason they choose Eugene is because Dr. Monosoff thinks that Eugene and Valerie Highsmith have one thing in common: fortuitous misfortune syndrome. This means that Eugene and Valérie are so unlucky that they will meet by chance. This idea was told to Detective Raymond Campanella and he thought it was the most absurd thing he had ever heard ... middle of paper ... helicopter and it caused the pilot to land . Coincidentally, this is near where Valerie is. These are all examples of how comic characters view the abnormal as completely normal. In conclusion, normal solutions don't work in comedic plots, abnormal things are normal for the characters, and comedy focuses on the irregularities of an otherwise orderly world. Pure Luck does a great job portraying comedy. This made a lot of people laugh throughout the film and that's the whole point of comedy. The world would be boring without comedy because there would be no entertainment, but at the same time comedy can become very personal with the use of satire, which can cause problems. Nothing is taken seriously, nothing is bad and everyone wins in the end in the world of comedy. For the most part, comedy is a good thing and it helps keep the world moving..
