Living with twelve strangers for an entire year might not sound too appealing to everyone. Yet for the girls on the first floor of Pulley Resident Hall, it brings something new and exciting every day. Being part of this discourse community means that the girls and I share a threshold of membership, common behaviors, language, goals and beliefs, as well as a way of communicating. Bonding as a group and getting closer to each other was a challenge at first, but became easier as our shared goals and interests surfaced. Laughing together, while laughing at each other, was truly the key that united us not only as a floor at Pulley Hall, but also as friends. To become a member of Pulley Resident Hall, one must be accepted to Southern University. Mississippi, apply and be accepted for housing, register and choose the hall, floor, room and roommate of your choice. Once accepted to the first floor of Pulley Hall, we must learn to live with another person, or a roommate who has been placed in the same room, who is usually a complete stranger. An extremely important behavior in our establishment is respect. Every girl should respect each other and treat each other like a sister or a family member. Being quiet and cleaning up after yourself is not only respectful, but helps keep our living environment hygienic and orderly. The manager of our first floor in Pulley Hall is our RA, or Resident Assistant, Mimi. She sets all the rules for our floor and makes sure we follow them. She is responsible for our actions and punishing us when we make the wrong choices. His boss is also our room manager, Gabi. She monitors all the RAs and makes sure they keep their floors on track. In the end...... middle of paper...... it's impossible. Comedy is the perfect word to describe the first floor of Pulley Hall. It is our source of fun and entertainment. When we all get together for room meetings, we can't even have a serious conversation and our meetings always seem to drag on because we're constantly splitting up and joking. I always look forward to being in the dorm with all the girls because it always seems to upend even the worst moods. On the first floor of Pulley Residents Hall, comedy and laughter are our stress reliever and a source of daily fun. It’s what brought us together as a community and what continues to bring us together. Comedy and laughter describes our room and the many experiences we have had as a floor because we truly appreciate everyone's sense of humor. Without it, I don't know how we could survive each day.
