  • Essay / How Louis Armstrong Developed - 876

In 1936, "Pennies from Heaven", a film starring Bing Crosby, contacted Armstrong to play a role they thought Louis would know very well, Louis Daniel Armstrong. Louis accepted the film and it was a great success, leading to him appearing in four more films over the next four years. Louis had once again made a leap not only as a jazz singer and blues player, but now into film. Armstrong was a versatile artist and loved by all (Wayne). Armstrong continued to perform with his group "Louis Armstrong and His All Stars" after the war ended. Even though the band had many musicians, they all loved playing with Armstrong and the audience reaction wherever they played. Louis and his group have performed in Europe, Africa and even the Congo in front of tribal leaders. Armstrong became one of the best ambassadors the United States could have. The Massachusetts legislature even gave him a citation in 1958 stating how he had helped many people through his music by bringing comfort, pleasure and understanding to people around the world.
