  • Essay / Black Friday - 1565

The harsh, bitter air froze my poor, ungloved fingers as they held the small paper tightly. My eyes strained to make out the colorful shapes lit by the moonlight above me. Looking up from the brochure, I found that the line of shivering people was beginning to move toward the corner of the building. It took me a few seconds to wake up the frozen nerves in my legs and take a step forward. As the temperature dropped and time slowly passed, I began to realize that I should have bundled up in layers, like a warm, puffy bun, before leaving the house. I took a quick look at the time on my phone. There was only an hour left, I thought. Her tail wagged excitedly as she headed towards the Christmas tree, festive with many ornaments, expecting me to follow her. “Oh, okay!” laughing lightly. I bent down to grab a shoebox-sized box from under the tree. Wrapped in shiny foil the color of my Golden Retriever, the box was quickly discovered. “Here’s your buddy!” I hope you will like it! I took a soft fabric toy out of the box. It was a plush toy dressed in red and white, the size of a shoe. Sally grabbed the item and jumped excitedly holding her new Santa dog toy in her snout. Delighted that she liked her gift, I took out my DSLR camera and looked through the lens. Taking a photo of Sally as she smiled proudly into the camera, I captured the precious and magical moment around us..
