Essay / Analysis of Hollywood Cinema - 1918
The United States of America has one of the oldest and largest (in terms of revenue) film industries. Hollywood is the main site of the American film industry. However, four of the six largest movie studios in the United States are owned by companies located on the East Coast. Only The Walt Disney Company, which owns six other film-making companies (Walt Disney Pictures, Lucasfilm Limited, Pixar Animation Studios, Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone Pictures, and Marvel Studios), is located and based entirely in Hollywood, California. Sony Pictures Entertainment is also headquartered in Culver City, California, although its parent company, Sony Corporation, has its main headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. The very first movie studio in the Hollywood area was Nestor Studios, founded in 1911 by Al Christie. It was located in an old building on the northwest corner of Sunset Boulevard and Gower Street. The same year, fifteen other independent studios set up operations in and around Hollywood. Hollywood became so strongly associated with the film industry that the word "Hollywood" came to be used to describe and refer to the entire American film industry. Perhaps one of the most famous old studios: Charlie Chaplin Studios was built and established. in 1917, on the northeast corner of La Brea and De Longpre avenues, just south of Sunset Boulevard. It was owned by many different companies after 1953. In 1969, it was named a Historic Cultural Landmark/Museum by the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Council. One of the most distinctive things about Hollywood is the famous Hollywood sign, which originally read "Hollywoodland." It was built in 1923 by local estate agents to advertise new homes for sale middle of paper......and to make homosexuality less taboo. Shows like Breaking Bad help show the dark side of rehabilitation and prohibition. Like their blockbuster Hollywood counterparts, these small (more or less) TV shows present a variety of ideas on different topics. Through this, we are able to share knowledge, consider opposing worldviews, and present arguments. The new “golden age” of television is now upon us. As the Internet continues to make cinema more accessible to audiences, Hollywood will continue to be one of the greatest influences on society and politics today. It's much easier than ever to create and share your ideas through film. Before, independent studios dramatically increased the amount of debate and argument people had access to. Never has the power to express oneself and one's opinions through cinema been greater, and we are better for it..
