    Hillary Rodham Clinton was born on October 26, 1947 as Hillary Diane Rodham to parents Hugh Rodham and Dorothy Emma Howell Rodham in Chicago, Illinois. Hillary grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois, a picture-perfect suburb 15 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Hillary Rodham was the eldest daughter of Hugh Rodham, a wealthy fabric store owner, and Dorothy Emma Howell Rodham. Hillary has two younger brothers, Hugh Jr. (born 1950) and Anthony (born 1954). As a young woman, Hillary took an active role in Republican youth groups and campaigned for Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater in 1964. Hillary was inspired to participate more in public service after hearing a speech at Reverend Martin Luther King's Chicago. Hillary became a Democrat in 1968. Hillary attended Wellesley College, where she was very active in student politics and was elected senior class president before graduating in 1969.
