  • Essay / Persuasive Essay on Tuition Increase Policy - 740

The Tuition Increase Policy is a popular policy among Texas State students and their families who the increase would also affect . This policy affects low-income students and families and is an issue that is on the lips of every student on campus who complains about their uncertainty about finishing college or the student loan amount that would have took responsibility for paying after graduating from college. I chose this topic because I believe that we do not need to increase our tuition fees to receive a superior and quality education. This is an issue I would like to see reconsidered by state legislatures and the Board of Regents. One of the major issues with rising tuition costs in the state of Texas is the reduction in state funding for universities. As tuition costs rise, financial aid declines and more students must cover a portion of tuition costs out of pocket or may resort to loans if they cannot afford to pay the rest themselves. Students who are the first in their families to attend college, commonly referred to as "first-generation students," would surely need financial assistance to obtain the college degree they dream of because their parents could not afford obtain such a diploma. Enrollment increases each semester and tuition increases With less money available for each student, students and their families tend to seek other alternatives to pay tuition, for fear of having to opt out. For example, a single mother working part-time and trying to balance work and caring for her children may decide to move back in with her parents to reduce her daily expenses. Many middle-income families do not qualify for need-based aid, even if they cannot afford it...... middle of paper ...... My school's government association and we would develop then strategic steps on how to get our demand to the top. We would first go to the president of the school and if progress was not made we would go directly to the Board of Regents who I believe has more authority to make certain changes. I believe I would have opposition from the presidents and school officials because they are the ones who support the tuition increase since the university does not receive enough funds from the government. I don't think I have to compromise anything to get part of my request. for the reduction of tuition fees. I believe the key to a nation's success is education, as Obama said. Nowadays, many jobs require one to have at least a college degree, so I think that increasing tuition fees will not get us there, but will only give us an increased number of school dropouts and a lot of unemployed..
