    Tattoos mean many different things to different people. Often tattoos have some meaning behind them and could offend people who discriminate against their tattoo. Someone may have tattoos for religious reasons. Some cultures have tattoos as a sign of heritage. If the world discriminated against tattoos, it could potentially be discrimination against one's culture (John Roberts 155). Besides heritage reasons, people use tattoos as a symbol of courage or to put something behind them that represents something meaningful (Martí 6). A tattoo can also represent an accomplishment in someone's life. For example, some people get tattoos of their wedding date, their children's birthday, or even their children's name. People get tattoos to symbolize a plethora of events/phases in their lives. Aside from showing culture and symbolism, tattoos can also simply be used as a form of personal expression; for example, to show that you are bold, or that you are not afraid to show your true colors (Foltz 600). The problem with people showing off their bodies with tattoos is that many people are not okay with it. Older generations generally have a hard time accepting the fact that tattoos are used for self-expression. This really poses a problem for the most preserved generations, because they have the impression that we can express ourselves in other ways, such as through the activities we do and even through our career (Martí 9).
