  • Essay / Joseph Ledoux and the emotional brain - 1147

To be completely honest, personally, I do not and will not voluntarily read scientific textbooks, science fiction or simply scientific manuals. But since I had to choose a book and turn in an article with a PowerPoint presentation, I decided to choose a book that I was somewhat interested in and thought would be easy to write an article about. And since emotions are something that every living creature has within them (well maybe the majority of them), I thought that Joseph LeDoux's book would give me insight to better understand emotions and their role in our body. And it actually gave me some knowledge on this topic. This book was not only about emotions and the results of the research done by LeDoux, but also about the brain's evolution, thinking and memory and how it all works in humans and animals. Like every other scientist who has and will try to find an answer to the human brain and emotions, Joseph LeDoux also asserts that we will never completely understand the neural basis of emotions across humans. However, to appease his curiosity in the face of the many questions, he carries out an experimental trial on animals and rats to uncover the hidden emotional secrets of the brain. It gives a logical interpretation of what emotions are, how they work in the brain, and why they have such a significant impact on our lives. The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Foundations of the Emotional Life written by Joseph LeDoux manages to blend psychology and biology into the fields of neuroscience to describe the correlation between the brain and emotion and allows readers to fairly define emotions according to their own opinion and understand the complexity behind it. this through its well researched facts and quality themes middle of paper...... irritation, lust and perhaps even the emotion of lovesickness. What types of signals do our body systems send and respond when someone irritates us? What's wrong with being in love or in love? Do nerves with wings (butterflies) actually form and beat when the person we have a crush on talks to us or just walks by? I think Joseph LeDoux has done an incredible job in his work, The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Foundations of the Emotional Life. Although I am not an expert in emotions or even in scientific fields, in my personal opinion I would definitely recommend this book to anyone asking for a book recommendation for classes or even for fun, as it provides consistent understanding. behind the scenes of emotions and the role that evolutionary beings play there. AND it was certainly stress-free to flip through each page one by one until the very end.
