Essay / Discussion of whether Congress truly represents the American people
The America we know today is expected to change. Variability is the racial and ethnic makeup of people in America. A century ago, many immigrants from Eastern and Southern Europe helped create our cultural and constitutional diversity. Today, with new immigrants from Asia and Latin America, this adds and creates an even greater measure of cultural and constitutionalized diversity. Furthermore, the situation of racial and ethnic groups goes unnoticed due to the increase in intermarriage and the growing number of mixed ancestry. Our Congress is known for being one of the most racially and ethnically diverse groups. The number of women in Congress is at record numbers, fewer members have military experience compared to the past, and most members of Congress have college degrees. Although immigrants in Congress remain below historic highs, the share of immigrants in Congress has increased, and over time Congress has also become more religiously diverse. Say no to plagiarism. The US population, compared to the US Congress, has many different and similar demographics that make this visualization easier. For example, in Congress, women are being elected at an increasing rate, but men are still in high numbers compared to the United States and for Congress to have a true picture of the American population, it should accept transgender people. The ethnicity between the American population and Congress is overwhelmingly white, but diversity has been found to be increasing. Black and Hispanic representatives were elected, and the first Native American representatives succeeded in making the Native American Congress proportional to the American population. The United States is said to be home to more Christians than any other country in the world, and a large majority of Americans – about seven in ten – continue to identify with some branch of the Christian faith.” The US Congress remains overwhelmingly Christian, as does the majority of the American population. Other religious representations more or less represent the rest of the United States and the most diminished group was non-religious groups such as agnostics or atheists. Today's Congress is more established and experienced than it was 50 years ago. So, would this mean that Congress does not represent the American people? I would say yes because most members of Congress are white men and the needs and interests of women and minorities are not represented. Another reason is that most members of Congress are stuck in their old ways, which can cause major problems for younger generations to come. It is said that the extremism of majorities can create popular distrust of legislation, which can destabilize Congress. This means that the American public's trust in Congress will soon disappear if Congress is unable to make the necessary changes to match the makeup of the new American population. However, on the Congressional side, the way people vote also contributes to the problem. The American public must be willing to change their attitudes, strive to become more active in politics, and create changes in political campaigns, which could help Congress represent everyone..
