Szymborska fights against the idea that death has power over humanity by providing reasons not to let death win, such as mocking the banality of dead. It is not something to fear or revere. Szymborska highlights all of Death's failures, then she highlights the beautiful things in life that thumb their noses at Death. In the final lines of the poem, Szymborska writes: “As far as you have come / I cannot undo it” (47-48). Although death means the end of life, the journeys and memories of life can never be erased; we will always remember them. Ultimately, death has no meaning in life and humanity has the advantage over death. Life will always be more powerful than
