Contrary to popular belief, sweatshops still exist and cause damage around the world. Many businessmen and women believe that sweatshops are a necessary aspect of growing the global economy. However, this is not the case; it is actually the opposite (ILRF). Some companies that still use sweatshops are slowly being exposed in the media, most of which are American companies ("Policy Debate"). The United States government should take legal action to shut down sweatshops because they negatively impact the global economy, are used by major U.S. corporations, and endanger the lives of innocent children who work there. work. Sweatshops create a “race to the bottom.” it hurts the global economy. A race to the bottom is when companies or countries compete to cut costs by cutting wages and providing their employees with terrible working conditions. Since poverty-stricken developing countries take advantage of their workers and pay them next to nothing, large companies choose to manufacture most of their products in countries where this happens, simply to reduce production costs. This causes the community of people who work in manufacturing jobs to lower their wage standards to keep their jobs (IRLF).
