Speer's image was transformed from an apolitical position to that of a "skillful manipulator" thanks to Gold Hagen and the "Office Chronicles". Gold Hagen was an important figure who used events from Speer's life and altered historians' perceptions of Speer's personality. He argued that Speer had been present at the conference of Gauleiters and Reich officials and was therefore aware of the planned "final solution". Nonetheless, Speer claims in his three-page affidavit that he did not attend the conference. However, Hagen debated that even though Speer was not present, he had prior knowledge of the "final solution", as was mentioned several times in Himmler's speech. Sereny and Van Der Vat confirmed Hagen's argument proving Speer's involvement in the deaths of 75,000 Jews through his "Germania" project which involved the demolition of Jewish settlements and the use of slave labor to accomplish many tasks. Both historians asserted: “…Speer was not an absent-minded, amoral non-spectator of Nazi anti-Semitism, but an active participant…”. This clearly shows that Speer was not "apolitical", but was interested in party fights, since he chose to ignore the issue of mortality in his dealings with the Jews. The “Office Chronicles” written by Wolter from 1941 to 1945 have served as evidence for historians to
