For decades, women in the United States have played a less important role and occupied less important positions than men. This is what I would call discrimination, which has its own translation: in the United States, women are considered to be part of minorities, whereas in other developed societies, this is not the case at all. Even if in Europe also women can occupy the less important positions with consequently a lower salary, they are always equal, and sometimes even superior in other areas in the distribution of social positions and have the other option to succeed .
