"So Long A Letter" by Mariama Ba and "Blood Wedding" by Frederico Garcia LorcaThesis: Characters who cause immense pain to others, in particular to their wives, succumb to death in the texts So Long A Letter and Blood Wedding by Mariama Bâ and Federico García Lorca respectively. Death is an aspect of life that prevents a person from being invincible. This is one of the inevitable events that a man must give in to. In the texts So Long A Letter and Blood Wedding by MariamaBâ and Federico García Lorca respectively, death is a poignant theme that prevailed throughout the text. The question is whether the deaths of the characters in these texts are deserved and designed by the authors because of the immense pain these characters inflict on their wives. First, So Long A Letter by Mariama Bâ which is a letter with a diary from Ramatoulaye to her best friend Aissatou. depicts the series of events that took place in the past, mainly describing the lamentations of three women (Ramatoulaye, Aissatou and Jacqueline) because of the lack of commitment of their husbands. Additionally, this text describes the Senegalese way of life and how Muslim society readily accepts polygamy. As we read the text, we meet Modou Fall, Ramatoulaye's husband, who died for an unknown cause. In my opinion, his death was destined because of the eternal pain he dispensed to his wife. This is due to his "abrupt decision to take a second wife" and his abandonment of his family. It was a very appalling situation since Modou left Ramatoulaye and his twelve children to improve his relationship with a girl his daughter's age. Although he married her by committing polygamy, which was sacred...... middle of paper...... mother's mood is in which she lost all her family members , including her last hope for survival: her son, her husband. , I perceive that the husband deserved to die because he dispensed pain and sorrow not only to the wife but also to her mother. Overall, we have seen that the statement “Characters who cause immense pain to others, especially their wives, succumb to death. ' is appropriate. Additionally, one can learn from this work that the consequence of the action you perform will be proportional to the intensity of that action. Modou Fall, Leonard and the Groom therefore all deserved to succumb to death. Last but not the least, it can be noted that all the characters who cause immense pain to others in both texts are male characters while the recipients of such pain are female characters..
