Essay / More Than a Housewife - 1229
Throughout history and today, we women are constantly subjected to stereotypes. Certain “rules” must be followed and certain “ideal” images of women must be maintained. They are raised to occupy certain positions in society and for this reason, opportunities are always limited and ideas about our importance in society diminish. Even though women have gained some independence, where they can work and occupy various positions in society, society's idea of the typical role of women never seems to change. I still remember the lives of my grandmother and my mother. Even though women's rights in society are improving from generation to generation, we are still expected to play the role of women. I too am in the same situation as my grandmother and my mother. My grandmother lived her entire life as a hard-working housewife. In her time, opportunities for women were still limited and the only thing they could do was become housewives. People were very conservative about the idea of the traditional roles of men and women. Men are always the providers and women the caregivers. Men held more power because they made money. It's hard for people to lose the conservative idea because it's been around since the beginning of the era. Thus, the woman's rightful place was not the workplace, but the home. Women were also not allowed to receive higher education, so my grandmother was only allowed to get education until primary school and after that her mother taught her how to be a woman in the home during her childhood and adolescence to prepare her for marriage. People thought that women being trained at such a young age was a good thing to do because the best house...... middle of paper ...... I want to be a housewife at a young age and , of course I don't. I want to waste my life. I want to pursue my dreams and make them come true. I want to find a professional job and settle down when I feel like it, when it's the right time. Because there are much better opportunities in my generation than in previous generations, I want to have an important place in society even if I am a woman. I decided to continue pursuing higher education. Society defines women as nurturers and caregivers. My grandmother and my mother were considered one and the same. Men have treated women as inferior due to the prevalent idea in society that women cannot be equal to women. Additionally, we are seen as weak, sensitive and unintelligent. For this reason, we are considered less important in society and most believe that we are not capable of holding high power than men..
