Essay / Unemotional teenage pregnancy in "Juno" - 904
Skinny, blonde and beautiful. Perfect? This is the message that the media broadcasts. You open a magazine and see images of perfect, slim, airbrushed women. In TV commercials, women have bright smiles, big hair and look flawless. So, are these women idols for young girls? Is this the stereotype? Even the majority of teen films use young actress models. Is this true? However, 2007's Juno was a different story. Quirky and witty, Juno (Ellen Page) was a not-so-stereotypical 16-year-old American girl. Shabby brown hair, gray eyes and poor, scruffy dress sense sums her up pretty well. She's not popular. She is not promiscuous. She's not an ordinary girl. She is not a stereotype. This doesn't feel like your average movie. You're probably wondering where the story is! Well, it all started with a chair. Juno was bored and so, instead of taking a trip to the mall, she decided to lose her virginity to her best friend Bleeker (Michael Cera). Then she discovers there's a "little sea monkey" inside her — and no, it wasn't a "Juno food pregnancy." But what to do? After all, it was an “irreversible scribble.” So she decided to nip it in the bud and went to the clinic for a 'rush abortion', only to discover that her baby had nails, she changed her mind and went home. She tells her father and stepmother, then finds an adoption ad in the Penny Saver and decides to entrust her baby to the rich couple Mark (Jason Batemen) and Vanessa (Jennifer Garner). So the story continues; a heartwarming story of love, divorce, friendship and trust. Teenage pregnancy. This is an important topic to discuss. Was it right to use humor in this film? Were his parents' reactions really appropriate and realistic? And we were right in the middle of paper......interestingly. Bleeker kept saying "do what you think is right" when Juno was talking about the baby. But that was also his problem. Why didn't he get more involved? Why should the young girl deal with it alone just because she has “the evidence” under her sweater? This was well addressed as it made me angry at the way things are going on this issue. I was slightly disappointed that there was no twist in the film. I was either expecting Juno and Mark to get together or Juno and Bleeker to run off with the baby! Even though it was a happy ending and the film probably gave optimism to any pregnant teenager who watched it, it seemed a bit like an easy option and eliminated any chance of an interesting sequel. Overall, I really enjoyed watching Juno. The soundtrack was incredible and the humor was witty and hilarious. This is definitely a must-see feel-good movie.
