Population and SamplingThe study population covers all types of road users in the Western Province, because every individual in the Western Province falls under a certain category of road users. According to the Department of Census and Statistics, the total population of the Western Province is 5,865,000 (Department of the Registrar General, 2010), the most valid and reliable data would come from each member of the population. It is very difficult to obtain, it is expensive and time consuming. consuming (10 Step Guide to Sampling by RCU, 2010), for these reasons, the research team chose not to use a census, which is why a sample of the population was selected to carry out the group survey and the questionnaire. QuestionnaireSampleThe term sampling frame describes a numbered list of the population of interest used to draw the sample in a survey. It is used to select the person who will be interviewed. The study's sampling frame is made up of all key people from the different types of road users (motorists, passengers, pedestrians, truck drivers, cyclists, etc.). The demographic and police accident database was used when developing the sampling frame. the survey would be different if we used the entire Western Province to implement the survey, making the representative sample large; therefore, the sample was selected in proportion to the entire population. Colombo district has the highest percentage which is 43% of the total population, so they received 85 questionnaires, likewise the sample was selected. Stratified random sampling was the most suitable sampling method because all types of road user groups can be easily identified within the population. The population of interest, i.e. all stakeholder groups, was classified...... middle of paper ......dents (road users) of the province of 'West for a period of one week. This was a primary form of primary data collection for the study, as the end product of the research is also to improve awareness on the road. A focus group study was carried out to find a specific objective of the research, which was to discover elements that should be included in good road safety advertising. It was conducted with 50 participants varying by age, gender and road use. And ultimately, the research team was able to conduct a public awareness study through observation.
