  • Essay / Scott Pilgrim vs. Reviews - 938

Great films come and bad films disappear. Some remain embedded in the spirit while others fall back into a quiet existence, never to be heard from again. Although, according to Jamie Weinman of Maclean's, "the disappointing opening of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World's fifth place at the box office means Universal probably shouldn't have spent $60 million on a Michael Cera movie” (78), Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World is not a film that should fall back into the hole from which it came. In fact, the two hours go by quite quickly with all the action involved. Based on the visual effects, music and quality of the conflict, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World is a cinematic masterpiece that is sure to become a classic. Directed by Edgar Wright in 2010, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World makes its film debut starring Michael Cera as 22-year-old Scott Pilgrim; the slightly goofy and heartbroken bassist of Sex-bob-omb who believes he has found “the one” after having his heart broken over a year ago by Envy, singer of The Clash at Demonhead. The girl of interest he dreams of before introducing himself is the mysteriously eccentric hipster Ramona Flowers played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. As soon as they get involved, Scott breaks up with his 17-year-old "girlfriend" Knives Chau, played by Ellen Wong, who doesn't take the breakup lightly. Shortly after Scott begins seeing Ramona, he discovers that Ramona's latest ex, Gideon Graves, played by Jason Schwartzman, has created the League of Evil Exes which Scott must defeat to win the girl. Meanwhile, Scott's band Sex-bob-omb competes in Toronto's international battle of the bands. Every essence of the film screams old school video game, from the music to the visual effects...... middle of paper ......he hero and his new girlfriend? Prepare for action until the end as you watch the conclusion of this epic battle. This movie is a must-see for anyone who loves old-school fighting video games or comic books. Not only Scott Pilgrim Vs. the world offers fantastic special effects, musically stimulating scenes and lengthy conflicts, it teaches a valuable life lesson. Works Cited Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World.
