Totem PolesA totem pole is a well-known indigenous artifact that was used by native Indians. Coastal Indians used giant cedars to carve totem poles. Totem poles were used to tell stories about a family, a clan, or a person's history. Therefore, totems were very similar to storybooks. Totem poles are very important to me because I appreciate the fact that they are used to tell the story of a family, clan or person, thereby teaching younger generations about the traditions of a family and all its past history.
