Strengths include the ability to communicate effectively, passion for helping people, good listening skills, understanding the needs of others and resolving conflicts. However, my weaknesses include being too friendly or sometimes impatient. As a Christian African American woman, there may be conflicts with potential clients. I could meet clients of different religions, races, sexual orientations and cultures. He or she might view my religion or race as a problem, nevertheless I would be determined to help him or her to the best of my ability, either by consulting a supervisor on what action to take or by transferring him or her to another social worker. A past life experience that could potentially affect my work is dealing with people who are abusers or who have been abused. Having faced this, I will have to discover a way to avoid these personal experiences in providing services to these people.
