    Even if various actors contributed to Quebec's path towards nationalism, I would consider René Lévesque as one of the main defenders of Quebec nationalism. He was considered a strong leader of Quebec independence and later formed the new provincial party in Canada – the Parti Québécois (Tangelder, 1995). The party's goal was essentially to achieve the sovereignty or independence of Quebec by means of a majority vote.
