Essay / Childhood obesity is preventable - 2271
Childhood obesity in America is a growing disease that has become an epidemic that has lasting psychological effects, due to fast food advertising, lack of activities physical and parental control which has made diet a major health problem. in the lives of many young adolescents today. Overall, who is to blame? Obesity is rampant in America and threatens to seriously degrade our society in many ways. Some people would say that obesity is okay and it's not that bad, they are wrong. There are some variations related to constitution, but everyone's body is designed to support a certain amount of weight. When you increase this weight, you disrupt your body's balance and you can expect your body to break down much sooner than expected. For example, think of a machine, a machine designed to lift 100 pounds, that could easily do the job and continue to do it for a very long time before breaking down. Now think about this same machine lifting 300 pounds instead, since it was designed for only 100 pounds, how quickly will this machine fail? It is also in our nature to not desire obesity, we are genetically designed, just like the rest of nature, to desire a fit and healthy society. This is the root cause of social aversion to obesity as well as personal aversion to obesity. Which brings us to see how childhood obesity has become a huge problem today. In order to truly understand the impact of obesity and why we should prevent it, we must first look at the causes of obesity and what keeps people obese. The first logical step we need to address is childhood obesity, even if the children are only to blame. In conclusion, although childhood obesity is alarming, it is preventable and treatable.Works Cited1. “Parents and children do not perceive obesity as a health problem.” Journal of the American Dietetic Association no. page.
