Essay / In Support of Social Security Reform - 1027
In Support of Social Security ReformMillions of Americans are affected by Social Security. These Americans rely on Social Security to provide them with financial security. Recently, President Bush agreed to propose a method of privatizing the Social Security program so that in the future the Social Security system's vast reserves will not be depleted as quickly. With inflation steadily increasing and the baby boomer generation reaching retirement age quite early, this is an issue that needs to be addressed properly and quickly. The way the president is handling the situation is certainly the right way to go. There are many ways to do things wrong, but the president appears to be steering Social Security plans in the right direction. The president's plans to reform Social Security are right because privatization is the best way forward, changing the rules for those who ask increases savings and allows money to go further, and work on distributing different tax percentages would really make the money go much further. To understand how Social Security privatization will help the Social Security program in the future, it is first important to know what it is and what it does. The way Social Security works today is that everyone who receives benefits from the Social Security program receives them all from one big pot, so to speak. By privatizing the different accounts, they can earn interest faster and make more money for the consumer on an individual basis. This can work better because the accounts are individualized and bring in the appropriate amount of money for the different financial situation the person is in. This will be a big change in how Social Security is managed, but it's for the better and will help many older Americans and the Social Security program in general in the years to come. One of the big questions when discussing the privatization of Social Security is where it leaves minority groups. All minorities are affected, but African-Americans are likely to face it the most..
