Obama State of the UnionAt the start of each year, the President of the United States addresses the nation and outlines the direction the Senate will take during his term. This tradition is called the State of the Union and it is a televised event that is shown to a joint session of Congress as well as the entire nation. The President outlined the issues in his speech, while offering possible solutions and answers to common questions the American people may have. The President spoke clearly and confidently throughout his speech. Furthermore, the speech motivated millions of people and gave hope for the future in such a short time. Obama truly appealed to Congress and managed to address the nation as well by relating common problems to situations that everyone could relate to. I think Obama's State of the Union address was impeccable in terms of vocal variety, strength of content, and manner of presenting possible solutions to his audience. Obama begins his speech by discussing his visit to Andrews Air Force Base, where he hosted some of the last troops who served in Iraq. This is important because it sends a message to all veterans and all those who have been affected by the war that they understand that the war in Iraq is truly coming to an end. “For the first time in nine years, there are no more Americans fighting in Iraq” (Obama). Before Obama's presidency, he said he wanted to bring the troops home, and with that statement he proved he accomplished that during his term. He continues to praise the military for its efforts overseas. “We gather tonight knowing that this generation of heroes has made America safer and more respected around the world” (Obama).
