    What are the media in contemporary America? The media is the essential source of information about what is happening in America and around the world. The media is where the vast majority of people receive their information and news. Media manipulation can lead to the death of freedom in modern America. The media is a great information tool, but people should not put all their trust in it. Media has evolved from a channel of information to a source of entertainment. Almost all media is reviewed by a high power such as the government. The situation for most young children is made worse by the influence of the media. Over the years, the media has become more manipulative towards its viewers, trying to impose a one-sided story that they only want people to listen to. In the United States, most of the power would rest with the government, because it is at the top and commands what needs to be done. That being said, the government can control the media to only see what they want people to see, thereby limiting the truth and one-sided opinion. In the novel It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis, he describes the fear that will force people to give up their freedom to be safe from danger. Media manipulation is largely to blame, as it sows fear among the population so that the government can control it. In an article on mass media, the author believes that mass media is an important tool in society. “It is through the media that we learn about a wide range of topics such as politics, war, natural disasters, health, crimes, exploits, sports, arts and famine” (Kamilipour). In modern America, most Americans rely on some form of media to stay informed about the outside world.
