Essay / Anti-war movement during the Vietnam War - 1421
Paul Potter, president of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), held his first anti-war rally which attracted 25,000 people. The movement occurred between 1960 and 1970. Paul Potter's speech, "The Incredible War", was created in hopes of ending the war by creating a social movement. The only way for people to end the war is to challenge the system, to create posters, not to organize a few demonstrations because that would not benefit them. “This war was mainly fought by the Vietnamese communists, who were strong in northern Vietnam.” (Britannica) The goal of the movement was to end the Vietnam War because it was taking away Americans' freedom and destroying world peace. The Americans and South Vietnam were mainly involved in the movement. The movement started because Vietnam wanted to become a communist government and until then, corruption was present. The anti-war movement considered the Vietnam War which began in 1946 when Vietnam wanted to gain independence from French rule. Eventually, the United States got involved and went to war against the communists. “The United States went to war against the Communists, but even American military might could not save the government of South Vietnam. » (Britannica). The United States had supplied military personnel and food to South Vietnam for a decent period of time and still made no progress throughout the war. The war lasted almost thirty years without much success. Paul Potter's speech took place on April 17, 1965, although 20 years after the start of the war in 1945, it was time to challenge and defeat the system. It involved Americans, hippies, South Vietnam, and American troops fighting in the Vietnam War. Biggest move middle of paper...the lesson behind this is that the United States would no longer get involved in situations where it was not needed and especially if it involved relations foreign. country. The United States now does not participate in any type of war in the 20th century. Works Cited Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia. Np: np, 12-01-2003. Electronic library.
