Essay / Cesar Chávez - 728
The truth about the freedom we have today comes from the years people fought for it. We can look back and see people like Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King where each fought in a different way, but all tried to gain freedom or at least the right to be treated as equally. César Chávez is a man who fought for people to be equal and more specific farmers. He was a civil rights activist and also a labor leader, who fought hard to ensure that farmers could be treated equally. His life is remarkable for the complicated years of his youth, the hardships he had to endure growing up and finally he got the recognition he deserved after his death. In the beginning, Cesar Chavez started having a difficult life since he was young. He was born March 31, 1927 in San Luis, Arizona, near Yuma. He had two brothers and two sisters. He began working at a young age after his family lost their ranch to an economic crisis. As a result, they moved and began living in a barrio, a poor neighborhood in the city of San Jose, California, and they began living as immigrants. He later left school to start working with his family in the fields and, in a way, start supporting his family. They moved from farm to farm looking for more fields to harvest to make more money. At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served for two years. Upon his return in 1948, he married the love of his life, Helen Fabela, and a few years later they had eight children together. Over the years, his life became more complicated. Upon his return from the Navy, Chávez continued to work in the fields. That was until 1952, when he grew tired of middle of paper......brother Robert F. Kennedy. In short, Chavez was a man who fought for better deals for farmers. One of his quotes was: “Fighting is never about grapes or lettuce. It’s always about the people.” With this we can conclude that whatever type of strike he carried out, it was always for the people. For example, when he fought about pesticides found in grapes or lettuce, the real fight he led was always a fight for the people to make their lives easier. Maybe his life wasn't easy as a working child at a young age or maybe it became more complicated as he grew up and unionized to defend people who worked on farms, but he became a hero among farmers. Most importantly, Chavez gave farmers the momentum they needed so they could fight for what they wanted and, in the end, they were able to get the rights they deserved..
