Essay / Elite Sports Players Deserve Their Huge Earnings
There are many concerns regarding the issue of elite sports players being paid ridiculous amounts of money and, for some people, they are overpaid. Questions like “Should someone who kicks a ball be paid millions more than someone who saves lives daily?” » are asked and statements such as athletes are completely overpaid. We give them millions of dollars while there are children and adults dying of hunger in third world countries. These countries are starting to be supported and one day their situation will be much better than today. Although some people agree that Elite Sport players are overpaid, that is not the case for me. Elite Sports players are artists; they put people in the stands. They sell tickets and therefore make money. Moreover, apart from a team's franchise, they also promote endorsements and in turn make a lot of other people a lot of money. So they rightly deserve a massive share of the profits. Major League Baseball's 30 teams had about $3.5 billion in revenue last year. They spent about $2.1 billion, or 60 percent, on player salaries and benefits. [2]. Most of them work hard and dedicate most of the year to their sport. The world needs artists and not all gamers are millionaires. For example, statistics indicate that the average AFL career lasts just over four years [1]. Four years at the top level on a base salary is not enough to be established for life and sponsorships are not worth much. However, at one of the highest levels like Premier League Soccer, Grand Slam Tennis, NBA or PGA golf, etc. Contracts, endorsements and prize money are worth millions, it doesn't matter, they have reached the highest level they should be able to to live a rich life...... middle of paper ...the ......rs should not be chosen. In the United States this baseball season, the average player is earning $2.4 million, an all-time high. In three games, he makes what a typical high school teacher makes in a year, $45,000. [3]. When will teachers be paid millions like baseball players? People will never, ever pay millions to watch a professor teach. I have come to the conclusion that the elite sports industry is entertainment in itself and that this industry is just an industry in which there are millions of dollars. My final conclusion is that sports people should never be compared to other jobs or industries and earn their due.Works Cited1 .http://www.australianfootball.com.au/LifeOfanAFLPlayer.html2. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BUE/is_1_135/ai_n18614876?tag=rel.res13. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BUE/is_1_135/ai_n18614876?tag=rel.res1
