Essay / Human Nature in Minority Report - 681
In the film “Minority report” by Steven Spielberg, shows that the pre-cogs who can predict murder are the main component of the pre-crime department and John Anderton, who is the team leader to stop the murder before it happens. However, he was predicted to commit murder in the future, so he decided to find out the truth about the pre-cogs vision to prove that he is innocent. At first, he thought that Danny Witwer, who was the Justice Department observer, had framed him in this incident. Eventually he found out that he was framed by Lamar Burgess who was John's boss and he also proved that the pre-cogs' predictions were not correct at all. The Pre-Crime department had finally been closed. Therefore, from this movie then we could know that self-preservation is the natural behavior of human being. This argument suggested that the act of murder could be a kind of prevention to reveal secrets, protect one's profits, and defend oneself from harm. First of all, human beings always protect themselves, so some of them may choose to kill others to hide the fact. If the truth that will harm their reputation or status is revealed to other people who should not be known, a kind person can become bad. This is because they want to hide their secrets, as it is one of the natural behaviors that any human being would have. At first, they may choose to lie to conceal the truth; killing would certainly be their last choice to protect themselves. Most of the time, this secret is related to evil. Thanks to this film, Danny discovered the secret of the Anne affair which is linked to Lamar. Hoping to hide the secret forever, Lamar killed Danny. Therefore, killing other people to hide the truth is one of some human beings' means of self-protection. In the hope of protecting one's property, homicide could be the choice of some humans. Human nature is always selfish; we are born to live for ourselves. Because of this nature, if someone tries to harm us, to hurt the one we love, we will do everything to protect them from harm; even animals. In the movie, Lamar killed Anne when she wanted to bring back her daughter Agatha who was one of the pre-cogs. Yet Agatha is the most important pre-cog among three of them, so Lamar murdered Anne to protect his pre-cog..
