When an author writes a work, he goes through several drafts before feeling that his work is complete enough to be published. This process of proofreading, rewriting and re-editing is called revisions. Professional authors can do a lot of revisions; some authors make up to 150 revisions (Murray 327). Throughout my writing career at school, I only made two drafts: the draft and the final version. As I continue my studies at school, revision has become more important and will only improve me for my future education and career. One of the biggest struggles I've faced as a writer is grammar. I tend to overuse commas a lot, which in my essays were labeled “comma splices.” In the first essays I wrote, I had some of these comma splices. For example, in my summary essay, I wrote: "Julie spent two years in Indonesia studying and performing, she had become part of the family in the village where she lived. » This comma should not have been put here. I had the same comma splice problem in my critical essay. I wrote: “She participated in an experimental problem that only made her condition worse, her mental state was in decline, which was the last straw for her book. » The first comma in this sentence should have been included. My rhetorical analysis essay seemed to have the most commas. “Nothing stands out when you look at this website that makes it difficult for readers to focus on the material,” I wrote this, and the commaDeskin 1 is not necessary. I notice that I like to use commas, but I don't use them correctly. I tend to use the “pause” rule, which is when someone reads a sentence and pauses at some point in that sentence. This just seems to be in the middle of the paper...so I can rephrase the sentences to incorporate more of my voice throughout my essay. Development is another revision process that Murray discussed in his article. Murray states, “Each section of a writing must be adequately developed” (Murray 328). The thing I struggle with the most as a student is procrastination. Especially when I work in addition to going to school, I tend to postpone my homework until the day before it is due. I started early with this mission, but not as early as necessary. My development was weak from the perspective that I didn't know where I was going with my paper. I discussed the history of same-sex marriage and then moved on to the argumentative portion of the essay. If I were doing a revision of this essay, I think I would try to start from scratch and write an outline to help me develop my essay further..
