  • Essay / Speech Traits: Men and Women Contain the Same Vocabulary

The research I've collected shows that women use the same dialect as men on social media and in conversations. Romaine says in her book Community Gender, that women use tag questions to gain reassurance about a statement, and that men also use tag questions in discussions and on social media. Women are not the only gender to frequently use emphasis to describe an item. Men therefore use adjectives to describe how they feel about clothes or certain situations. Politeness is not a trait that only women possess, but it is how a person is raised that determines their politeness. Men and women communicate in the same way and there is no difference between the sexes. Romaine's article specifies that women use tag questions more than men in order to be reassured during a conversation with another person. The example she uses is: “It’s a beautiful picture, isn’t it” (page 154). Both men and women use this statement. Men are just as likely to use a statement like this, but in a different context, like "Isn't that Liverpool jersey pretty cool?" » The statement is exactly the same as Romaine's example, just in a different context. In a conversation with my father last weekend, he said: “Real Madrid are going to get a new stadium. Pretty cool, don't you think? My dad just wanted to make sure he wasn't the only one who thought the new stadium was architecturally modern and not a waste of money. My sister, Kara, was getting ready to leave with her boyfriend and she asked, "These shoes match my skirt, don't they?" Kara wanted to make sure everything was okay, as did my father and his comment. Men like to be reassured in certain situations, just like women. For example, men talk more about sports and women talk more...... middle of paper ......tion. Today, media and television portray that women who swear tend not to look like women. It's worth considering when men swear that it's just men being men. Politeness is not something that one gender favors, but something that both sexes participate in. Women and men speak the same way, but their choice of words is different. Asking a tag question for reassurance is a feeling of reassurance that everyone likes to feel in today's judgmental society. Accent isn't something that only certain people do. If you are passionate about something in particular, it will have a lot of tone. Manners are demonstrated by both sexes and neither is more courteous than the other except in the manner in which a child is cared for. Women and men speak very similarly and there is no difference.
