  • Essay / Critical Analysis of a Classroom Discipline Problem

I believe that after reading only two chapters, this book is one that all educators must read. There are many great examples and ideas that could really help any educator. Unfortunately, I have witnessed the effects of the educator disciplinary problem far too often. I remember spending entire classes learning nothing because the teachers were trying to fix a minor problem that had gotten worse because of them. I even remember some teachers becoming furious and insulting their students over something so small. In my experience, teachers who employ these types of strategies and characteristics are not respected by their students and so they continue to act out and disengage. On the other hand, I have seen extraordinary teachers handle disciplinary matters with composure and dignity. I saw, as the book suggests, teachers standing behind students or lightly tapping them on the shoulder when they engaged in off-task behaviors, which I generally saw.
