  • Essay / The Importance of Crime Scene Investigation - 1033

Handwritten notes can be found in places like an individual's pocket or even in open places like a coffee table. These things can be examined not just by looking at them, but rather by focusing on their style characteristics and personal characteristics (Fisher, 2012). The difference between the two is that personal characteristics are any changes made intentionally or unintentionally to style characteristics. What can help investigators determine identity are personal characteristics. For example, let's say an individual puts hearts at the end or beginning of their letters. This could be used to help reduce the number of people affected, simply because it's something not everyone does. The only downside is that the murderer may know that this is also the case and alter this in order to throw investigators off course. Another method of determining the identity of a deceased person is to examine their bones. The pathologist is the person who would be contacted regarding the inspection of a localized bone body. This person is able to provide data to investigators such as their apparent age, height, build, weight and any scars they may have.
