In the late twenties and early thirties, a significant development began in the world of theater. This movement was called Workers' Theater and was partly shaped by the agitprop theater of Communist Russia. Agitprop theater contained brief pieces and was performed on transportable theater entities. Agitprop Theater performers frequently performed songs that sought to enrage listeners into resisting entrepreneurship and recognizing the ways of communism. They wanted their audience to agree to the idea that the working class was going to rise up. Russian communist agitprop theater accordingly used presentations, presentational performances, lack of plot, and montages to promote their philosophies. Ultimately, the importance of Workers' Theater waned by the mid-thirties and one of the developments contributing to the deterioration of the Workers' Theater movement was through the use of various dramaturgical approaches and tools created by the Workers' Theater was the creation of the Federal Theater Project. Once government acquired the role of positioning individuals to produce theater, government had the capacity to integrate this advancement. The Federal Theater Project attempted to bring personal work to the unemployed theater, because fashionable radio broadcasts and sound films had almost replaced vaudeville as America's preferred performance practice, and many of the vaudevillians even the best have lost their jobs. The Federal Theater Project also attempted to present theater that was relevant to society and politics, local, and affordable.
