  • Essay / Global warming: a climate in crisis - 919

Global warming is destroying our earth. As humans, we are responsible for global warming. Global warming is gases trapped in the atmosphere. These gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide and methane. Do you heat your home with gas, drive a car, or know someone who works at a power plant? These are just a few factors contributing to global warming. The gases emitted by power plants and your automobile are fossil fuels. These fuels include oil, gas and kerosene. Where do these gases go? They are trapped in the atmosphere under what is called a greenhouse effect (Time for Change p.1). I believe in global warming. It’s not just scientists taking note, I’m taking note. I'm trying to find out what I can do to support the cause of global warming and save our planet. One way I plan to save our planet is to buy a fuel-efficient car that uses solar energy. In the future, I am considering purchasing solar panels for heating my house. I intend to support scientists' belief that global warming is an emergency. The United Nations founded a group of scientists called the IPCC. The IPCC stands for Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This group studies the latest developments in global warming and writes a report including everything we know about global warming (What Causes Global Warming). According to the IPCC, global warming could lead to famine and water scarcity. The IPCC defines climate change as a change in the climate directly linked to human behavior that has forced changes in the climate over a period of time (IPCC, Annex 1). .- The effects of global warming are significant in certain regions of the world.
