  • Essay / On the Incarnation By Athanasius On the Incarnation

Why we believeWith every religion come things to learn and understand. Some things are easy to understand, while others may be impossible to understand. Why was it necessary for Jesus to be human? How did Jesus defeat the most powerful of human leaders? Why did God send his only son for us? In the book On the Incarnation of Athanasius, these questions are explained in detail. From the creation of man, God promised to protect and care for us. He fulfills this promise through Jesus, his son. “He did it out of pure love for us” (Athanasius 8). This quote refers to the amount of love God had for humanity, that love had been strong enough to shine through our own rejection of Him. He continues to do it. When the human race repeatedly rejected God, He continued to have mercy on us. “It is our sad case that has sent down the Word” (Athanasius 4). Why would God continue to love us after all this? God could not abandon us, his creation. If we look at the kings and rulers of Jesus' day, we would most likely see corruption and death. When a king was upset, he often took a violent route. God, on the other hand, chose to send someone kind and loving to help us rather than harm us. This proves that God genuinely cared about us and wanted to see us prosper. “Now that the common Savior of all has died for us, we who believe in Christ will no longer die” (Athanasius 21). God wants us to have faith in Him, He wants us to live forever with Him. Another king might bring death upon his people rather than upon himself, only for his well-being and not for that of his people. When Jesus died, he gave us the choice of life rather than death. All we have to do is have faith and believe that He is in the middle of paper...he loves us, he wants us to love him too. We are all truly blessed to have a God who would rather save us than destroy us, a God who would lay down his life for us. Some things are difficult to understand. People will lose faith and believe it is all false, but what is faith if there is no doubt. Our questioning is what led Jesus to come in the first place, and when he destroyed death, he revealed himself to us all..
