Essay / Jfk Assassination Assassination - 848
November 22, 1963 has become one of the most infamous days in United States history. It was the day the thirty-fifth President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated during a motorcade in Dallas, Texas. This date has become a “where were you when this happened?” kind of day, comparable to September 11th. This shocked the nation then, and the repercussions still exist today. The assassination of such a young and beloved president remains a controversial and sensitive subject, and it is tending to become what John F. Kennedy was known for. This is a fact that, in my opinion, should be changed. John F. Kennedy lived a fulfilling and successful life and established an exceptionally accomplished political career that was overshadowed by his assassination. JFK's political career would not have been possible without all of his influences, academic achievement, and experiences throughout his life. JFK was born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. Even when he was born, young John already had influences in his life that would steer him toward politics. Her maternal grandfather was a well-known Boston mayor known as Honey Fitz. Another influence of John's early life was growing up in a wealthy family. This provided the funds John needed to receive a proper education. This proper education first came when John attended Choate. Choate was a Connecticut boarding school for teenagers. Even at a young age, John was noted by his headmaster to have "an intelligent and individualistic mind". After graduating from Choate, John entered Harvard in 1936. John kept good grades and worked hard at Harvard. He worked especially hard in his English and government classes, which were his favorite classes. ...... middle of paper ...... like space exploration. He asked Congress to approve $22 billion for the Apollo project. Project Apollo would give the United States the edge in the space race by sending a man to the Moon before the end of the decade. JFK did many other things that helped the United States and the world. He created the Peace Corps which helped many poor countries through volunteer work. He authorized the Green Beret as the official headgear of all U.S. Army Special Forces. And in 1962, he created the Navy SEALs as a small, elite maritime force. Today, SEALs carry out major military missions, including the capture of Osama bin Laden. As you can see, JFK led a full life with many accomplishments and much success. And even though that life was cut short, we must look back at history and look at the many examples of hope and ambition, not despair..
