This essay focuses on the analysis of the personal management skills that are essential in performing a management role and also helps to reflect on my own personal experience which would help me recognize my strengths and weaknesses and build on them. For the purposes of this essay, I used three competency management theories. Mintzberg’s theory talks about the roles of managers and a management model that categorizes the ways in which management is carried out (Mintzberg 2009). Boyatzis' theory talks about three main skills which are cognitive emotional intelligence, emotional intelligence and social intelligence (Boyatzis 2009) and finally 'a holistic model of professional competence' (Cheetham & Chivers 1996) which are three types; functional, personal or behavioral knowledge, skills and values or ethical competence. To succeed as a manager in today's fast-paced world, it is important to understand your personal skills. Based on my experiences, I have observed tremendous pressure when it comes to situations where you have to deliver on time, stay in the competitive world of business and ensure that the quality of the product is not compromised . To be able to do all this, it is important to identify your skills and weaknesses. The ability to accomplish a specific set of tasks effectively and efficiently is what a skill is. When I was pursuing my Masters in Business Administration, as president of my university's Business Society, I was in charge of a group of people who were to present a potential business idea at a reputable business conference.
